Arnup Studios are home to six artists and makers. Originally the home and workplace of Mick and Sally Arnup (renowned painter/potter and sculptor), their daughter, Hannah, is now continuing its creative story. There are events and workshops throughout the year, so put the dates in your dairies, keep an eye on our websites and follow us on social media for more information. We look forward to seeing you!

Hannah arnup
SALLY'S STUDIO
Hannah creates stoneware decorative pottery, handmade for everyday use and enjoyment – pieces that appeal to both practical and aesthetic values. She also enjoys making one-off sculptures and tripod pots, and specialises in ceramic signs. Orders and commissions welcome. She divides her time between Ballymorris Pottery in Co. Clare, Ireland, and her house and studios at Holtby. A selection of work is available to purchase online. |
LIZ FOSTERNORTH STUDIO
Liz is an abstract painter whose work is driven by colour, gesture and atmosphere. She paints primarily in oils, alongside print, watercolour and collage. Her practice explores pattern, shifting colour relationships and the emotional pull of place. She exhibits widely across the UK, with work held in private collections at home and abroad. A selection of available pieces can be viewed on her website, and enquiries for private studio visits are warmly welcomed. michelle gallowayPOTTERY STUDIO
Enigmatic, ethereal paintings that re-imagine architecture, the natural world and man-made artefects. Michelle’s paintings develop from sketches and photographs taken on location, blending imagination and inspiration from architecture, archaeology, and man-made structures. From her beautiful studio space at Arnup Studios, York, she creates and teaches art, sharing her collections and prints. She exhibits both solo and collaboratively across the UK and locally, in galleries, open studios, art fairs and art cafes. |
Kate PettittGALLERY STUDIO
Kate's plein air and studio paintings and drawings explore wild landscapes, nature and the human form. Using a variety of media from acrylic to graphite, her work is instinctive, expressive and often textural. Kate exhibits in galleries in England and Wales, and original artwork, books, cards and giclée prints can also be purchased from Kate’s online shop or from her studio. Penny Phillips
KILN STUDIO
Penny is a sculptor, artist and teacher. Her work is centred on British wildlife and captures movement and expression through dynamic designs and bold, textural surface decoration, while preserving the raw energy of the clay. From September '25, Penny will undertake a programme of research to explore narrative construction, storytelling and fairy tales, myths and cultural identity, specifically the representation of animals within these contexts, through ceramics and printmaking. Penny also runs regular ceramics courses from her studio. |
Emma WelshSOUTH STUDIO
Emma creates silver, gold and platinum jewellery. Each piece is individually hand-made using traditional techniques. She completes bespoke commissions, repairs and re-modelling of existing jewellery into new designs. Emma also offers jewellery making tuition and wedding ring workshops at her studio.
